Though it might seem like kitchen sink installation is a skillful task reserved for contractors, with some patience and the right tools you can do it yourself. Be sure to measure the opening beneath the counter and the surrounding cabinets to ensure your sink is the right size. Remember also to follow any instructions provided by the manufacturer.
The first step is to trace the outline of your sink onto your countertop, using either the sink (turned upside down) or a template if available. You'll want to leave about 1.5" at the counter's edge. Using a 3/8" drill bit, drill into each corner of your outline. Then, simply cut the sink shape out of your countertop using a saber saw, and remove it.
A quality kitchen sink installation is dependent on quality faucet and drainage pipe installations. This is the next step. Once your faucet and drainage pipes are installed, drop the sink into the counter opening you've created. Using caulk or plumber's putty, trace the outline of the sink, creating a watertight seal that will protect your countertop from moisture and mold.
Most sinks come with special clamps used to hold the sink in place beneath the counter. Install these clamps and remove any excess caulking or putty after doing so.
To complete your kitchen sink installation, install the P-trap below the sink. Turn off your water using the shutoff valves and remove the aerator from the faucet. Turn on the hot and cold water to flush the pipes, and reinstall the aerator.
