What are custom wall surrounds for the bathroom?

And what have they to do with bathroom remodeling?

There is little doubt that there are few things more beautiful than a well-tiled, lovingly remodeled bathroom. Yet for many people that means huge expense and a long period of time without the use of a bathroom in their home.

There are however alternatives available at a fraction of the cost. Enter Custom Wall Surrounds.

Basically, custom wall surrounds are custom manufactured coverings for existing bathtub and shower walls. Your worn, out-of-date tile walls and dirty grouting are simply covered up with a covering that is high-gloss, impact resistant finish that is easy to clean and maintain - and installation will probably take less than a day.

There is no grout and the surface is non-porous, meaning there is very little cleaning required. Most manufacturers will offer floor to ceiling options as well as three quarter height.

Typically, wall systems are made up of various pieces. This is because acrylic expands and contracts with heat nearly as much as wood does. Butyl rubber strips and a silicon adhesive are used (preventing leaks), and small gaps are left to allow the acrylic to expand and contract.

One-piece wall systems run the risk of developing horizontal cracks at the corners if not properly installed. There are, however, quality wall surround systems available with seamless corners. This means no water filters into your wall or floors. If your contractor offers one-piece wall systems, check the warranty for completeness.

Custom wall surrounds can be color combined with bathtub or shower base liners to perform a complete custom bathroom remodel at a fraction of the cost of normal remodeling.
